Floral inventory II: An Investigation in Thread

Floral inventory II: An Investigation in Thread

Artist Statement

Her love of floral forms has led her to investigate the representation of flora in many different mediums including watercolour, paper sculpting, felt and now embroidery. The complexity of natural forms–diversity, simplicity, symmetry and irregularity–is visible in each individual embroidery and within the series as a whole. Combining scientific botanical illustration, traditional decorative embroidery, and contemporary freehand thread-painting techniques, Floral Inventory II re-examines and rediscovers a historically familiar subject in a new and compelling manner.
