YVR: PORTRAIT OF A CITY
A Roundhouse PartnershipFri Sep 17, 8:00pm - One Night Only! Performance Centre Tickets: $12 Adult, $10 Available at the door Info: www.radixtheatre.org Part potluck, part new media installation, part live radio show, YVR is an ongoing project led by interdisciplinary artist Andreas Kahre and co-presented by Radix Theatre and the Roundhouse Community Centre, YVR is a portrait of a city that refuses to sit still. Amid continual transformations, Vancouver challenges its citizens to understand these confines we call home--an amalgam of utopian, functional, and dysfunctional components. Developed with a team of prominent Vancouver artists utilizing material generated through public workshops at the Roundhouse, YVR comes in the form of an interactive paper theatre installation--a fragile, temporary collection of remembered and imaginary places, sounds, stories, and desires. And it’s a potluck! YVR is a co-production with the Xenographic Society ( www.xenography.org ). In memory of Lola McLaughlin. |

CHANCE ENCOUNTER
MUSIC ON MAIN: MODULUS FESTIVALA Roundhouse Partnership Sat Oct 3, 3:00pm Roundhouse Turntable, FREE! Info: www.musiconmain.ca Lisa Bielawa’s Chance Encounter has captivated audiences in Manhattan parks, at New York’s Whitney Museum, outside the Zaha Hadid-designed MAXII museum, on the banks of the Tiber River in Rome and in Venice. Hear the Canadian debut, outdoors at the Roundhouse. For the Canadian debut, Grammy Award-winning soprano Susan Narucki is joined by the Music on Main All-Star Band. Lisa writes that Chance Encounter “is designed so that it is not prescribed where and how the audience should or might sit to enjoy the music. The musicians are in two separate locations, approximately half a city block away from each other. They arrive one or two at a time, over the course of seven minutes, so that it is not clear exactly when the performance has officially begun. The soprano’s sung ‘libretto’ is comprised entirely of utterances that Susan and I overheard over the course of a full year of travel, in transient public spaces around the world – Rome, Taipei, Anchorage, Salzburg, Dallas and beyond.” Chance Encounter is the final performance in Music on Main’s Modulus Festival, four days of adventurous music making with leading classical, new and genre-bending artists. |
