Walking is fun, easy and anyone can do it. Whether you’ve got a personal challenge you’re working through, a health problem that needs to be solved, looking to expand your social circle, or simply your attitude on how you relate health and fitness, a long walk is the ideal time to work through all of these life choices.
If you find it difficult to get active, then why not start walking?
It is relatively easy to integrate into our lifestyles, you don’t need any special equipment, and, best of all, walking counts towards your recommended amount of physical activity. The level of impact is low, and strain on the feet and joints are minimized, thus making the risk of injury very low. It improves your health, keeps you fit, lifts up your spirits, and the list does not stop there. Read more about the benefits of walking. Just because most of us will not reach Olympic calibre, does not mean we shouldn’t congratulate ourselves for aiming to be fit and healthy.
So what are you waiting for? Take out your sneakers, tie up those laces and let’s get moving in the Roundhouse spirit on a guided walk through historic Yaletown, a great opportunity to know your neighbourhood and become part of Move for Health, created in 2002 by the World Health Organization as an international event, held every May 10.
Diana Vanderveen, a Roundhouse programmer and health expert, will accompany you on this walk and provide health tips and advice. For over 10 years, she has been part of this event and is highly passionate about sharing her expertise with you. After the walk, sit back and enjoy some healthy refreshments and snacks while mingling with your peers. Read details and registration information for Move for Health here.
